PETER THOMSON

CHAIRMAN

Five times British Open Champion, winner of over 100 tournaments world-wide and President of the Australian Professional Golfers Association from 1962 to 1994, and an honorary member of a number of golf clubs including the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Royal Birkdale and Royal Liverpool, Peter Thomson is arguably one of the greatest names in golf.

A golfing education on the magnificent courses of the Melbourne, Australia's 'sand belt' region including those world ranking courses designed by the likes of Dr Alister Mackenzie has left a lasting impression. This together with a long association with golf and worldwide experience in the international arena brings insight to Peter's design work, whether it be the fine detailing of green and bunker shapes, or a special understanding of how to 'dress' a golf course for cham-pionship play. These are qualities that make the difference between a good course and a great one.

Peter was primarily responsible for the introduction and popularity of golf in Asia with his personal commitment to the pro circuits in S E Asia and Japan.

Peter is a respected writer and television commentator on golf and has contributed to the game over many years through his newspaper column, golf magazine articles and several books. Peter is Patron of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects and past Captain of the International Team in The Presidents Cup.

ROSS PERRETT

PRINCIPAL

After studying Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Turf Management, Ross established his own practice in architecture and landscape architecture in Melbourne, Australia.

Having completed his Masters thesis on Golf Course Architecture and being a keen golfer, it was inevitable that he would steer his practice towards major land developments including golf resorts, housing estates and landscape master planning.

In 1988, Ross became associated with Thomson Wolveridge & Associates, providing golf design and documentation, project planning, landscape and architectural services to a variety of local and international projects.

In 1991, Thomson Wolveridge & Perrett was formed, subsequently becoming Thomson Perrett. Ross' skills and enthusiasm have given the firm a further depth of understanding of the many and varied aspects of resort development including master planning, golf course design, archi-tecture and landscape architecture.

Ross is passionate about the role that land planners can play in arresting the current degradation of the planet. Of particular interest to him is the growing environmental responsibility that rests with the golf course designer and he has given numerous conference presentations on the subject.

Ross is Past President of Society of Australian Golf Course Architects, promoting the importance of environmental awareness, and he is always seeking innovative solutions to an ever-increasing range of technical and environmentally sensitive issues.

Sc in Horticulture at Melbourne University in Australia in 1993 focusing on turf and golf course management then quickly gained employment with Golf Course Architect, Ted Parslow in the role of Design Associate. Based in both the Australian and Malaysian offices Tim quickly gained experience in all facets of golf course and resort development and the value of accepting, respecting and appreciating the local culture and landscape.

In 1998, he joined the London based golf design practice of European Golf Design in the role of Senior Golf Course Designer. During the six years of involvement with European Golf Design he was responsible for designing internationally recognisable golf resort developments in Ireland, Turkey, Finland, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Bulgaria, England, Wales, St Kitts & Nevis and Czech Republic.

Tim brings a professional and creative approach to the design process and maintains a 'hands on' presence during the construction phase. This subsequently ensures that construction is done correctly the first time.
